Adam's 40th

Look who's forty!

I wanted to do something special for Adam's 40th, and I thought a surprise party just might work considering that I just had a baby. I mean, who would be crazy enough to do that?

This girl.

He thought all we were doing was having a quiet dinner downtown (with a few out of town friends who all just happened to show up at once...right around his birthday) followed by cheesecake back at the house. Little did he know we had much more in store for after dinner. It's a testament to Adam's character that he has so many great friends who conspired with me and then stuck around to hang out with him late into the night.

And he really was surprised!

We all sang happy birthday to him as he walked in.

Along with cheesecake, we had a bourbon tasting.

All of this went down the Saturday before his birthday. But I had to hold something back for the actual day: His awesome friends and family had sent me pictures and notes in the weeks before the party, and I compiled them into a book for him that we presented to him on his birthday morning.

In addition to scanning dozens of their childhood pictures, Michelle had composed and memorized an alternate version of "Cat's in the Cradle" (it became a happysong in her hands) which she sang to him.

Gus also made a special picture for his Daddy.
The kids made sure we had cupcakes...for Daddy, of course...
