January

Gus is definitely two. He enjoys garbage trucks, going to the library, parties, singing, contradicting his parents, keeping his sister out of trouble, running "really fast," and he picks one song in the car that he wants to hear over and over again (Lauryn Hill's "Zion") and then he gets tired of it and selects a new song (Justin Bieber's "Baby Baby")(don't put him in a box).

Two words he consistently mispronounces are oatmeal ("eatmeal") and music ("muse-get")(yes, still, and I still love it). In the middle of a meal, he'll often grab my hand or Adam's and ask us to pray.

He runs to his sister's aid any time she cries cooing "Sweet girl! You're loved, Lucia! I love you so much!" Then he scales her crib and attempts to drag her out by her neck.

Luci is one tough cookie.

Baby girl had a big month: she perfected her sitting, crawling, and pulling up skills, and there's no stopping her now. She also found her voice and her pterodactyl shriek lets us know when she's excited about something.
Things she gets excited about include Kona, Kona's water bowl, mama (after an absence), and Gus when she's in the right mood.

Luci dislikes having her nose wiped, getting down the one step in our house (hint: her usual method involves falling), and being put in her crib.

January 13

Gus took this picture. True story: I haven't worked out much since Gus was conceived. A few months ago when I put my running shoes back on for the first time in years, Gus thought I was wearing daddy's shoes. Because he'd never seen me in that kind of shoe before.

Yep. I skipped a couple of days. See previous post about sleeping deprivation. This load of laundry is super clean because I washed it once and pulled it into the laundry bag intending to immediately empty the bag and go get the next load. Various kid diversions later I grabbed the full bag in the hallway, patting myself on the back for having been able to gather the day's laundry without even realizing it. Various kid diversions later, I went looking for that clean pile of laundry to get it folded. At which point I realized the dirty piles were still present...but there was no clean pile to be found. So you see, I can't even do my laundry; how I expected myself to take a picture every day is beyond me.

It's been a rough couple of weeks. Here's what happened the night we insisted he sleep in his room.

She's crawling and pulling up. Batten down the hatches.

Playdough and a dull knife bought me some time to clean the kitchen.

Guitar

We got Gus a guitar for Christmas and he instantly became too cool for us.

We got Luci a tambourine, but she knows the guitar is cooler and tries to steal it regularly.

They were both under the weather today, so I snuggled them in our bed for nap time. After a while I snuck off and grabbed my camera, but by the time I got back, Lula had woken up and was crawling toward me.

January 4

Gus wasn't feeling so hot, so I made him some "coffee" (warm water with a bit of honey). He was so happy to drink out of a grown up cup and looked so cute taking careful sips.

We see you with the camera, mom.
What's her deal?
She made a New Year's resolution to take pictures everyday.

Who me? Playing brother's guitar? Can I distract you with my pulling up?
